Wednesday Forum: Thích Nhất Hạnh's Thought - Buddhism and Mindfulness

Wednesday, January 21, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

At the upcoming Forum on January 21, we will learn about Thích Nhất Hạnh's thought, a session led by Laurie Ross along with Livia Jackson. A Buddhist monk from Vietnam, he is known as a global spiritual leader and peace activist who taught about mindfulness and peace. See this article for his key teachings on mindfulness, ecology, peace, business, and education: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/key-teachings.

For additional information, see this extended biography, with entries on different aspects of his life: https://plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/biography/thich-nhat-hanh-full-biography.

Our last program before we start Great Decisions 2026, on February 4, will be "The Generation Z Revolt in Nepal," with the discussion led by Earle Canfield, who worked in Nepal for years.

From mid-February through June, as is the Forum's custom, we will cover the eight topics in the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions 2026 program. The booklet with chapters on each topic is available to order at fpa.org for $35 plus shipping. Each session will be led by a Forum volunteer, and introduced by a video from the Foreign Policy Association. We already have leaders for the three sessions marked with an asterisk (*) below. Volunteers are needed for the remaining five topics.

  • America and the World: Trump 2.0 Foreign Policy
  • Trump Tariffs and the Future of the World Economy
  • * U.S.-China Relations
  • Ruptured Alliances and the Risk of Nuclear Proliferation
  • Ukraine and the Future of European Security
  • * Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order
  • * U.S. Engagement of Africa
  • The Future of Human Rights and International Law

We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Knatvold room and via Zoom. All are welcome to join. If you are not already on the Forum list and would like to be, to receive the Zoom link and regular notices, please contact the UUC office at office@uuchurch.org or (206) 525-8400.
