UNIVERSITY UNITARIAN CHURCH
Sexuality Education
We know that accurate, honest, and holistic information about sexuality changes lives. We believe that having the ability to make informed and responsible decisions about our relationships, sexual health and behavior deepens our understanding of ourselves, our values, and helps us make meaning in our lives. We are proud to make Our Whole Lives (OWL) available to the Seattle community.
OWL is a comprehensive, lifespan sexuality education program developed in partnership by the
Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. OWL provides accurate, developmentally appropriate information about a range of topics, including relationships, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, sexual health, and cultural influences on sexuality.
Kindergarten-1st Grade:
This 8-workshop curriculum helps children ages five through seven begin the lifelong process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and values about identity, relationships, safety, and health. Sexual abuse prevention is addressed in this curriculum in a trauma-informed manner, which places the responsibility for prevention on adults, not children. Workshops include activities, games, songs, and movement breaks that keep young children interested and energized. Note: Due to the limited availability of trained facilitators, we will not be able to offer K-1st Grade OWL during the 2025-2026 church year. K-1st Grade OWL will next be offered in winter 2027.
4th-5th Grade:
4th-5th Grade OWL will next be offered in winter of 2026; registration will likely open in December.
This 10-workshop curriculum is designed to help older elementary-age children gain the knowledge, life principles, and skills they need to understand and express their sexuality in holistic, life-enhancing ways. This program introduces key topics like values, body image, gender and sexual identity, peer pressure, and healthy relationships.

8th-9th Grade:
Our Whole Lives (OWL) is a comprehensive sexuality education program designed to help participants gain the knowledge, values and skills to lead sexually healthy, responsible lives. In this OWL class, youth explore many topics, such as anatomy and physiology, gender, sexual orientation, relationships, dating, pregnancy, contraception, and sexual decision making.
UUC typically offer 8th-9th Grade OWL on an annual basis. In the 2025-2026 program year, we anticipating beginning this class in the winter. Registration will likely open in the fall. To stay updated on OWL for teens at UUC, we encourage you to sign up for our Youth Ministry Newsletter. For more information about OWL at UUC, please contact Director of Family Ministry, Aria Curtis.
All OWL programs include concurrent parent/guardian gatherings, which use the curriculum “Parents as Sexuality Educators” as a guide.
