Over 50 from our UUC community gathered to prepare and share food with our unhoused neighbors during the first week of 2026. Between the Lake City Partners Sack Lunch crew and the Teen Feed meal team, UUC folks prepared 24 breakfasts, 40 lunches and 255 dinners for our unhoused neighbors at God's L'il Acre Day Center, the Lake City Partners Winter Shelter, Teen Feed and Roots Young Adult Shelter. Just four gatherings of small groups from our community resulted in 319 meals!
Homelessness and food insecurity are deeply connected. People without stable homes often cannot get regular meals, and those who are unhoused are three to four times more likely to suffer from chronic health conditions—food insecurity impacts both mental and physical health. Sharing food with our unhoused neighbors is an important effort in helping to address Seattle's homelessness epidemic.
If your UUC small group wants to learn more about the possibility of preparing a meal for some of our unhoused neighbors, please contact Pam Smith Mentz or Judy Oerkvitz.
