UUC member Roberta Ray shared this remembrance:
When I first met Cheryl, we were both part of a group of [UUC] women training for our first triathlon. Cheryl was shot just days before the event. We carried her with us, wearing [temporary] tattoos on our calves, not knowing if she would survive, and telling other women why we were wearing her name... Cheryl did survive, and as others have said, was one of the most badass women I have ever known, as a citizen activist and as a person whose everyday life reflected the world that she knew was possible. Rest in power. May your memory be a blessing.
