Oct 7 Homeless in Seattle (or Elsewhere)

Tuesday, October 7, 7:00 p.m. at UUC by registration

Why do some cities, like Seattle, have more unhoused folks than others? Come to UUC and hear author Gregg Colburn speak about this issue on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7 pm. He will offer a well-researched answer to this vexing question. Please register ahead of time to attend and let us know if you need childcare.

Gregg Colburn is the co-author of Homelessness is a Housing Problem: How Structural Factors Explain U.S. Patterns (U Cal Berkeley Press, 2022), and associate professor of real estate in the College of Built Environments at the University of Washington. He will talk about his book, which tries to understand the regional difference in levels of homelessness around the U.S. Do we have more unhoused folks in Seattle because we have more people with substance abuse or mental illness? More people in poverty? More "permissive" policies? Or an insufficient supply of housing?

Colburn is frequently citedin news articles about housing markets around the country.

This presentation is hosted by UUC's Homelessness Ministries Team.
