Dialogue Group: Higher Education

Thursday, October 9, 7:00–8:45 p.m. in the Knatvold room

All are welcome to drop in as the 4th Principle Dialogue Group discusses higher education. It’s a big topic, and we’ll let the curiosity of the participants guide the dialogue.

What role has higher education played in our lives personally? What does it mean for UUC that our congregation is so well educated or for the whole UU community to be so well educated? How does the dominance of elite universities affect the lives of students and society at large? How has higher ed changed in our lifetimes? When is higher ed a good value and when is it not? What’s going on with “culture war” issues and higher ed, including student loan debt, political trends on campus, free speech, anti-Semitism, and affirmative action? How well do the admissions practices of prestigious colleges and universities serve the students, schools, and society? What does it mean that the majority of higher-ed students are women, the reverse of 50 years ago?

The 4th Principle Dialogue Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of each month to promote the “free & responsible search for truth & meaning,” pursuing the congregational goal of Connected Community. We get to know each other and connect to each other through meaningful, open-hearted dialogue. Drop-ins welcome. Homework not required. See more in UU Connect.
