Hosting Tent City 3: Parking & Transportation Options

While we are hosting Tent City 3, there are fewer available parking spaces in our lot. As Revs. Jon and Beth have shared from the pulpit in recent weeks, priority for limited parking will be given to those with limited mobility and small children. UUC’s Tent City 3 Team will have parking ambassadors on hand on Sunday mornings to help the congregation adjust to the reduced number of parking spaces in the UUC parking lot.

Parking Options

One way you can help us adapt to the reduced number of parking spots in the UUC lot is to find street parking within a few blocks of UUC, or use a nearby lot that has been made available by a neighborhood business. In recent months, UUC’s Tent City 3 Team has been scoping out nearby street parking, and found dozens of spots within 1–3 blocks. Check your Gateway for a map that highlights nearby options.

Public Transportation

Find an alternative mode of transportation during the three months that we will be hosting Tent City 3: carpool, take public transportation, bike or walk. You can reach the church via King County Metro bus route #62 running east-west, or the #65 running north-south. Coming from the south, the closest stop is at the northeast corner of 35th Ave NE and NE 65th St. The church will be just to the north of this scheduled stop. Coming from the north on route #65, the bus stops just across from the front of the church. On the route from Sand Point on the #62, get off near the northwest corner of NE 65th St and 35th Ave NE.

If you take the Sound Transit light rail, the closest station is Roosevelt Station. Heading to the church from the Roosevelt station or other points west of the church, catch a “#62 to Sand Point” Metro bus in Bay 1. Exit at the SE corner of 35th Ave NE and NE 65th St stop and walk one block north to the church.

Carpool or Bike

If you are interested in carpooling or biking to church, please stop by our Tent City 3 information/learning station in Nathan Johnson Hall after services or email UUCHomelessness@gmail.com. The church’s covered bike rack is located at the rear of the church next to the parking lot.

Need More Information?

A UUC Tent City 3 Team volunteer will be happy to answer questions on Sunday morning at the Learning Station:

  • advice on parking options,
  • connect with others who are biking, or
  • join others from UUC who are volunteering

Several neighbors, including those from five nearby congregations and Think Big, Wedgwood are joining UUC to welcome Tent City 3 to our community. We have created a new easily-found UUC Hosting Tent City 3 item on our website’s main menu (to the left) written with this broader audience in mind.

Plus, with Tent City 3 arriving this weekend, UUC’s Tent City 3 Team anticipates questions from eager congregants, so there is also a new Tent City 3 FAQs article that will help you learn more about visiting Tent City 3, making a donation or how to get involved.
