4th Principle Dialogue Group: Accountability & Responsibility

Thursday, April 13, 7–8:45 p.m. in King

What does it mean for us to be accountable and responsible? Our 4th UU Principle calls for our search for truth and meaning to be “free and responsible.” Our 8th Principle calls on us to “accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.” The proposed Article II revision says, “We are accountable to one another for doing the work of living our shared values through the spiritual discipline of Love.”

The UUA is setting up two accountability teams, one for its Board and one for its staff. Our church’s bylaws specify that membership is open only to one who “accepts responsibility for the wellbeing of the Church community through contributions of time, energy, and financial resources.” Join us as Rev Justin Almeida leads a dialogue on what accountability and responsibility mean in UU spaces.

In addition to Rev Justin’s own experience, we might find points of discussion in the following sources.
