Wednesday Forum

Wednesday, April 15, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

Ukraine and European Security

On Wednesday April 15, the Forum will consider the next topic in the Foreign Policy

Association's Great Decisions 2026 program, "Ukraine and the Future of European Security".  Alliance with the United States has been the bedrock of European foreign policy and strategy since World War II, an arrangement perceived to have benefitted both the U.S. and Europe.  The Trump administration, however, has called the strength and longevity of the alliance into question.  A great source of tension has been policy toward Ukraine.  The Forum's discussion, led by Leila Kipp and Lynne Walker, will cover background on the Russia-Ukraine War, options for ending the warfare, the possible postwar settlement, and future European defense policy.

We are following the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions 2026 booklet with chapters on different topics for background reading. The booklet is available to order at fpa.org for $35 plus shipping. Each session will be led by a Forum volunteer, and introduced by a video from the Foreign Policy Association. We will discuss these topics in future weeks:

  • 5/6:   Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order
  • 5/20: U.S. Engagement of Africa
  • 6/3:   The Future of Human Rights and International Law

We meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Knatvold room and via Zoom on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. All are welcome to join. If you are not already on the Forum list and would like to be, to receive the Zoom link and regular notices, please contact the UUC office at office@uuchurch.org or (206) 525-8400.
