The Wednesday Forum will kick off its 2026–2027 program on September 16 with the History of the American Presidency.

As the American presidency evolved through changing times, each president left his legacy of responses to the challenges the country faced that impacted the era when he governed. Susan Cunninghan will first present a brief overview of America’s presidential governance from George Washington through Joseph Biden, and then proceed to more specific overviews of each of ten eras, followed by how each president within that era handled the challenges of the times. Susan’s presentation is based on The American Presidency by Paul G. Schmitz, published just this year. (Another source for background reading is Wikipedia's article President of the United States.)

The Forum will cover the following subjects through early February, followed by the Foreign Policy Association’s Great Decisions 2027 topics:

October 7:  Polar War

October 21:  Petroleum 101

November 4:  What Happened: Election Results

November 18:  Thanksgiving Potluck

December 2:  Environment, Earthcare

December 16:  Holiday Potluck

January 6:  U.S. Government and Entanglement with Corporations

January 20:  Sunni and Shia

February 3:  Nuclear Energy
