Wednesday Forum

Wednesday, April 1, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

The Third Nuclear Age: Trump, the Order, and the Bomb

On Wednesday April 1, the Forum will consider the next topic in the Foreign Policy

Association's Great Decisions 2026 program, "The Third Nuclear Age: Trump, the

Order, and the Bomb."  The second Trump administration seeks a return to a more traditional world of competitive states acting according to their individual national interests. One of the most significant effects of this assault on the liberal international order could be a new round of nuclear proliferation.

The discussion, led by Chuck Harwood, will cover the history of nuclear proliferation

since the 1940s, the first post-war nonproliferation phase, the current post-Cold War

nonproliferation world order, how the current order could erode, and the future of

nonproliferation if the U.S. and the world return to traditional, self-interested national

policies.

We are following the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions 2026 booklet with chapters on different topics for background reading. The booklet is available to order at fpa.org for $35 plus shipping. Each session will be led by a Forum volunteer, and introduced by a video from the Foreign Policy Association. We will discuss these topics in future weeks:

  • 4/15: Ukraine and the Future of European Security
  • 5/6:  Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order
  • 5/20: U.S. Engagement of Africa
  • 6/3:  The Future of Human Rights and International Law

We meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Knatvold room and via Zoom on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. All are welcome to join. If you are not already on the Forum list and would like to be, to receive the Zoom link and regular notices, please contact the UUC office at office@uuchurch.org or (206) 525-8400.
