Earlier this month, over 50 from our UUC community shared food with those living unhoused in our community. Over the course of one week, four small groups gathered to prepare food—over 300 meals in total. It can be simple, and fun, to gather your family, a group of friends from UUC or your neighborhood, or possibly those from your UUC small group.
Here are some opportunities to gather a small group to feed others in our community:
- Maple Leaf Winter Shelter Weekend Dinner - Provide a hot dinner on a weekend night for 24 people. Find out more and/or sign up.
- Maple Leaf Winter Shelter Ready-to-Go Breakfast - Assemble breakfast items for 24. You can drop-off items at the shelter the evening before. Sign up here.
- Teen Feed Cupcake Up - If you enjoy baking, you can gather a small group to bake desserts for Teen Feed. With about 40-50 teens dining together each night, you can add a delicious baked good to the menu. But, even if you bake a smaller batch of treats, particularly vegan or gluten-free treats that are often in short supply, they will be appreciated. You could coordinate dropping off your treats at Teen Feed's U-District location prior to dinner service at 7pm. Submit this online form or contact Morgan at kitchenlead@teenfeed.org.
- Tent City 4 in Lake City Neighborhood- Donate baked goods, fruit, a pot of chili, a pan of lasagna or a meal. You can check out the meal calendar for Tent City 4 to see if they already have a meal being delivered. You can call TC4 at 206-448-7889 or email tc4@sharewheel.org.
So many in our UUC community are already involved in feeding those who are unhoused, volunteering at food banks or engaged in similar efforts. We hope many more will find a way to share food with those experiencing food insecurity. If you have questions before reaching out to any of the above, feel free to contact Pam or Judy.
