Wa Na Wari is a non-profit organization which creates space for Black ownership, possibility and belonging through art, historic preservation and connection. UUC has been an ally offering support to Wa Na Wari through our Second Sunday plates for the past three years. You are invited to these three upcoming Wa Na Wari events.
Art Opening and Reception: “Uprooted,” by Yadesa Bojia. Saturday, March 21, 6-8pm. This series of paintings explores migration, identity, and resilience. Artist talk with curator Elisheba Wokoma at 6:30pm. Refreshments provided.
Film Screening “A Piece of Ground,” Monday, March 23rd at 7pm. The film reveals South Africa's complex history, a 300 year tale etched with the pain of land dispossession, echoes of chattel slavery, and the scars of forced removals that continue to haunt the nation to this day. A discussion with director Sesihle Manzini follows.
“Afrikan Textiles” Lecture, part 3 of 3. Saturday, March 28, 2 pm. Features contemporary textiles in Afrika with Afua.
