Sunday, March 29, 12:15 p.m. and 1–3 p.m. in the chapel
The title for our new art exhibit is “Images of Transformation.” All are invited to meet the participating artists after second service on Sunday, March 29, and during the Artist Reception from 1 – 3 pm that afternoon in the Chapel. Refreshments will be served.
Life is a continuous transformation. One can think of a child growing and transforming into an adult or a tree in winter leafing out with the coming of spring. A change of light may alter our mood, our perception of an object, or our experience of a place. The earth is in constant flux from forces such as climate change and forest fires. Our lives may be changed by a first love, a new partner, a change of residence, the birth of a child, or a new job. We may be transformed by the loss of a beloved person or animal or by changes due to injury or aging. When we embrace new ideas or engage in new experiences, we may transform ourselves.
Artists participating in this exhibit include: Neil Berkowitz, Clare Cole, Kathleen Coyle, Mary Lou Dickerson, Tom Greggs, Holly Koelling, Jose Trejo Maya, Peter H.D. McKee, Mia Schulte, and Reeve Washburn. Most live and work in the greater Seattle area.
The artists have used a variety of media and approaches to illuminate the theme, including collage, computer imagery, oil and watercolor painting, pastels, photography, printing techniques, transparencies, and fabric art.
This is the first time that the Art Committee has put out a Call for Artists to submit work on a specific theme. We chose the theme of transformation because it seemed fitting for this time of many changes at University Unitarian Church. The exhibit will hang in the Chapel Gallery through May 1, 2026.
