Saturday, July 11, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold (coffee at 8:30 a.m.)
Join UUC’s Faith Land Initiative team to explore Race, Faith, Land and Transforming Values
You are invited to join a session on the morning of July 11 at UUC to explore the intersections between race, faith and land in our region. This promises to be an interactive and engaging opportunity to explore these important topics and determine how they relate to us at UUC. We’ll walk through a timeline of exclusionary land use laws and actions with support from Joey Lopez from the Church Council of Greater Seattle.
We’ll each be encouraged to consider our own and UUC’s relationship to the land historically and at present. We’ll then discuss how we can implement an anti-racist framework into UUC's discernment processes and other justice and community work as we move forward.
Joey Lopez has been assisting UUC’s Faith Land Initiative team in our work to develop and sustain a mindset and process for accepting space-use requests that is transforming-values-based, mission-centered and mindful of the history and legacy of exclusionary laws and practices in our community.
The July 11 session runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Knatvold Room. We’ll gather at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and conversation prior to starting. If you would like to attend, please email Patricia Graesser at patsygraesser@comcast.net. If you are unable to attend, but would like to learn more or be notified of future similar opportunities, please email Patricia.
