Sunday, February 8, both services (9:30 and 11:15 a.m.)
UUC’s Second Sunday Plate collections serve as a direct expression of our faith through justice and service work. This month's Second Sunday Plate will go to support Lake City Partners (LCP). Their mission is to end homelessness one person at a time by building individual relationships that accompany people on their journey—from tent to front door. The funds received in this offering will be used to cover the one-time move-in expenses that people face as they attempt to move into a apartment. These include costs such as credit checks, first month’s rent, security deposit, fees to start up utilities, and the rental fee for a van if needed to move personal belongings. These costs can be insurmountable for low-income people ready to start a new chapter in their lives after a period of homelessness.
Thomas Burnside, Interim Executive Director of Lake City Partners, will join us at Sunday services on February 8 to explain more about the organization, its clients, and its programs. There will also be a learning center table during coffee hours. Contributions to Lake City Partners may by made in cash, or by check, text, or electronic bank transfer on February 8 and throughout the month. Be sure to indicate that your donation is for the Second Sunday Plate.
University Unitarian Church volunteers have been involved in supporting Lake City Partners for at least seven years. Currently, volunteers prepare and deliver sack lunches for guests at both The Oaks Enhanced Shelter and God’s L’il Acre Day Center once per month. We’ve been providing breakfast foods and occasional cooked dinners for guests at the Winter Shelter in Maple Leaf. In past years we’ve also hosted drives for warm clothing, camping supplies, toiletries, etc., and assisted with other one-time needs and projects.
