April Second Sunday Plate to UIATF

Sunday, April 12, both services

UUC’s Second Sunday Plate collections serve as direct expressions of our faith through justice and service work. This month's Second Sunday Plate will go to the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF). Founded in 1970, United Indians, based at the Daybreak Star Indian Culture Center in Seattle’s Discovery Park, provides a broad range of culturally responsive services and programming to Seattle and King County’s urban Native community. Attend the April 12 service to hear from a UIAT representative about the valuable work they are doing. We also encourage you to attend the UW Spring Powwow, co-sponsored by UIATF, to celebrate and support our local Indigenous community.

UIATF has programs to support parents and caregivers of young children, crisis housing and re-housing for youth, providing lunches and cultural activities for elders, and more. The Daybreak Star building is home to Daybreak Star Preschool, Daybreak Star radio station, and the Sacred Circle Gallery. In addition, the UIATF hosts Seafair Indian Days Powwow, events for Indigenous People’s Day, as well as Native art markets.

In the past UUC members have participated in the Wrestling with the Truth of Colonization workshop which United Indians and other Native organizations developed. This participation helped our church begin to build a relationship and practice acting in solidarity with United Indians of All Tribes.

You may add your donation to the plate at the Sunday morning service, donate online through UUC Connect (select Special Plate and specify April plate) or send your check to the UUC office, with the memo noted as 2nd Sunday Plate - April.
