Wednesday Forum: AI and American National Security

Wednesday, May 21, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

Lynne Walker will lead our discussion of AI and American National Security. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has evolved dramatically, to touch virtually all aspects of our lives, and promises to be even more pervasive and important in the future. Background materials recount the history of AI development, and question future civilian and military uses for benefit, such as quickly discerning patterns in huge data sets and enabling faster decision making; and harms, such as rapidly spreading disinformation. Policy options include export controls, educating the populace, and AI ethics.

We will meet on June 4 for a session on "American Policy in the Middle East," the last one in the Great Decisions 2025 series.

Great Decisions booklets with essays by experts on each topic are available from the Foreign Policy Association at this FPA link.

All are welcome to join the Wednesday Forum, which meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Knatvold room. If you are not already on the Forum list and would like to be, to receive the Zoom link and regular notices, please contact the church office atoffice@uuchurch.org or (206) 525-8400.
