Second Sunday Plate to Wa Na Wari

Sunday, November 9, both services (9:30 and 11:15 a.m.)

UUC’s Second Sunday Plate collections serve as a direct expression of our faith through justice and service work. This month's Second Sunday Plate will go to support the Art Program at Wa Na Wari. This non-profit organization located in the Central Area creates space for Black ownership, possibility, and belonging through art, historic preservation, and programs that create connections among people.

We look forward to having Elisheba Johnson, Wa Na Wari Co-Founder and Art Curator, join us for the service and at a Learning Station during coffee hours on November 9.

Wa Na Wari’s programs include:

  • the Central Area Cultural EcoSystem, 21st Century, a community organizing initiative
  • an oral jistory project
  • an art gallery and Artist in Residence program
  • a community meal program,
  • the BLOOM Food Justice Series, and
  • community events of interest to African Americans and others.

Donations may be made by check, electronic transfer or text. Be sure to indicate that your donation payable to UUC is designated for the Special Sunday Offering on November 9.

This is the fourth year that UUC has offered Wa Na Wari our support. We featured the work of Bonnie Hopper, one of their Artists in Residence, in our Chapel Gallery in 2024. After that, UUC purchased a mosaic by Bonnie Hopper, which is hanging outside the children’s suite. We seek to continue our relationship as an ally of Wa Na Wari based on UUC’s sustained relationship in support of their leadership and programs. For more information, visit
