Thursday, November 20, 7–8:30 p.m. in Knatvold
Since June, the UUC Leadership Team has been preparing our community in case federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempt to enter our space. We developed a protocol for staff to prevent ICE from entering our space without the proper judicial warrant. We want to ensure our space feels safe for all to worship and participate in our programs and events. Many congregations, medical facilities and schools have done the same.
We recently reviewed and expanded the initial ICE response protocol. We have also revised the signs that convey that ICE is not welcome to enter UUC without a judicial warrant.
While staff, the Board, greeters, and ushers are especially vital to how to respond on Sunday morning, we want any and all UUC members to feel comfortable in providing an initial response and then knowing how to seek staff assistance. We invite you to choose one of the following special Know Your Rights training sessions:
- Sunday, November 9, 1–2:30 p.m., Knatvold
- Thursday, November 20, 7–8:30 p.m., Knatvold
Led by Roberta Ray, this training will provide background and context on why UUC, and so many other faith communities are preparing for the possibility of ICE coming to the door. You'll also have opportunities to role play scenarios so that we can continue to warmly welcome newcomers, while also keeping all in our community safe as they participate in the life of this church.
Childcare for the November 20 event will be available by request. If you have questions, please reach out to Rev. Victoria or Morgan Sherwood.
We deeply appreciate your role in creating a welcoming, safe space.
