The Arts have been fundamental to humans from the very beginning with mammoth designs on cave walls to images of the Earth Mother spanning tens of thousands of years. Why? Why do we seem to need the Arts so badly? What do they tell us?
Our church sanctuary is adorned with art every Sunday. Music is a critical part of the service that many find moving and inspiring. The sermons can be delivered with rhetorical powerful poetry. What are all these art forms trying to communicate with us?
Joins us for a lively discussion where we will share reflections on a wide assortment of questions. We will be questioning the following:
Is Art truth?
Is Art beauty?
How can we tell good art from bad art? Who decides?
Does popularity prove worth? Is Taylor Swift better than Mozart?
Should the government support the Arts financially?
Is propaganda art real art?
As humans, are we making progress? Is Andy Warhol’s Coca-Cola bottle better than the Egyptian sculpture of Queen Nefertiti?
Can the Arts be damaging?
All perspectives willingly discussed!
The 4th Principle Dialogue Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of each month to promote the “free & responsible search for truth & meaning,” pursuing the congregational goal of Connected Community.
