Dialogue Group: The Seven Principles

Thursday, May 22, 7:00–8:45 p.m. in the Knatvold room

Everyone is welcome to drop in and join our conversation about the Seven UU Principles and how the church might treat them going forward. The 8th Principle has never been recognized by the UUA, but we recognize it anyway. As of last year, the UUA no longer recognizes the Seven Principles, either, so where does that leave us? At the upcoming congregational meeting, the congregation has the opportunity to answer a one-question survey about how congregants would feel about continuing to honor the Seven Principles in our beloved community. Come talk with us about what these principles mean to you and what it would mean for us to continue to uphold them. Here are those Seven Principles:

  1. The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  2. Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  3. Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  4. A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  5. The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  6. The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  7. Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

What do you think? Come join the dialogue!

This session is our last one for the church year.

The 4th Principle Dialogue Group promotes the “free & responsible search for truth & meaning,” pursuing the congregational goal of Connected Community. We get to know each other and connect to each other through meaningful, open-hearted dialogue. Drop-ins welcome. Homework not required. See more inUU Connect.
