UUC Raises Over $30,000 for Community Partners

The Social Justice Steering Committee (SJSC), under the leadership of Reverend Beth Chronister, wants to thank UUC members and friends for your generous support of our Second Sunday Plates (and special holiday plate) collected for social justice causes and partner organizations. Each church year, UUC groups, committees, and church school classes are invited to make proposals to the SJSC for organizations to receive these collections.

The SJSC has been exploring what it means to engage in antiracist giving through the Second Sunday Plate program. One of the priorities we have focused on is giving to organizations that are led by people of color. These Second Sunday Plates provide an opportunity for UUC to act as a whole faith community, raise awareness and stand in solidarity with an issue or organization, and invite people to engage as volunteers and supporters.

From September of 2022 through February of 2023, our Second Sunday Plate program and special holiday collection have raised $30,871, here are the recipients and amounts collected:

  • September: Teen Feed – $5,543
  • October: Cascadia Growth Fund – $3,215
  • November: Africatown Community Land Trust – $8,687
  • December: Teen Feed Holiday Collection – $2,025
  • December: Lake City Partners Ending Homelessness – $6,105
  • January: SHARE/WHEEL – $4,000
  • February: Powerful Voices – $1,296
  • March: Green Buildings Now – (amount not yet available)

Upcoming Second Sunday Plates

  • April: United Churches Emergency Fund
  • May: Wa Na Wari

THANK YOU again for supporting UUC’s partner organizations as part of our congregation’s commitment to social justice and being part of a larger ecosystem working towards a more just and equitable planet.
