Join UUC's Acting for Racial Justice Team for an afternoon with Jacob Johns, an Indiginous Unitarian Universalist multidisciplinary artist and climate activist, who carries stories and witness from both the frontlines of resistance and the corridors of power his work has led him into. Jacob will share videos and testimony tracing his journey from the confines of a maximum security prison to speaking before the United Nations.

Jacob comes to us as someone who has walked through profound darkness and returned. He was shot while standing in prayer and ceremony. Skilled healers pulled him back from the edge of death, and so did prayers rising from many Indigenous traditions across the world. He emerged from a long recovery a changed man, with a clarified sense of purpose.

Out of that experience grew a deep conviction. The time we are given is not ours to squander. The work of justice belongs to those who are alive and willing to act. Rooted in the principles we share: the inherent worth and dignity of every person, justice and compassion in human relations, and respect for the interdependent web of all existence, Jacob will reflectively lead us as we listen together and view the videos that illumina;te (as he writes it) the work already underway to build the future we all deserve.
