Gardening Volunteers Needed

Saturdays, June 13 & 20, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (come when you can)

Do you love gardening and want to collaborate with others to create a community-serving garden at UUC?

A group at UUC is collaborating with Teen Feed volunteers and clients to place garden containers in the southeast corner of the UUC yard, with harvested produce going to support Teen Feed meal teams.

The main focus to get us started includes a pizza garden (basil, oregano, cherry tomatoes, peppers, garlic...) and maybe other edibles like carrots, strawberries, arugula, broccoli...), and perhaps even adding a carpenter bee board installed along the back fence.

Adult volunteers are needed June 13 to dig out and move shrubs, prepare the sites and temporarily place planters.

Family volunteers along with Teen Feed volunteers are needed June 20 to fill the containers with filler and soil, decide which plants go where, plant the plants, place identifying signs of some kind and do a first thorough watering.

Our work window is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, and volunteers can come and go as they are able. We could also use a couple of volunteers to bring water and healthy snacks for both days.

We’re asking volunteers to bring their own work gloves and any preferred tools they have.

If you are interested in working one or both of these days, or if you are interested but can’t attend, please email Patricia Graesser at patsygraesser@comcast.net
