Raising Money (and Loving Power) for Social Justice Orgs

Submit application by Friday, April 3

Would you like to nominate an organization for one of next year's Second Sunday plate collections? Now is the time to submit an application.

As you may know, the church reserves the second Sunday of most months for a dedicated fundraiser at each worship service. During the offering, congregants learn about a UUC partner and have the chance to financially support that group via the collection plate or text-to-give.

The Social Justice Steering Committee (SJSC), which works with Rev. Victoria to oversee this Second Sunday Plate process, is inviting UUC groups to submit applications by April 3 for the 2026-2027 church year. We have updated the form you can use to nominate an organization that does important work reflecting UU values (with "Love at the Center"). You can get the form from Rev. Victoria or from SJSC chair Walter Hatch (wfhatch@gmail.com). Any UU group, but especially social justice teams, may apply.

The new form reflects two recent changes in the SJSC’s approach to social justice work. First, we are emphasizing relationships. When possible, we want our plate recipients to be organizations that UUC groups and members collaborate with on an ongoing basis (see question #6 on the new form). Second, we are asking applicants to highlight non-financial ways congregants can contribute to the nominated organization. For example, how can we advocate for them or their causes? How might we volunteer on their behalf? (See question #7 on the form.)

UUC has a long history of committed engagement in social justice work. The updated process for Second Sunday Plates is designed to continue that work, creating opportunities for closer partnerships fueled not only by financial gifts but also time, energy and love.
