Wednesday Forum: The Future of NATO and European Security

Wednesday, May 7, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

On May 7, Lynne Walker will lead our discussion of The Future of NATO and European Security. The U.S. commitment to defend Europe, which has repeatedly faced reappraisal since the early 1950's, has come under recent scrutiny from Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the Trump administration's critical comments. Background materials for this session from the Foreign Policy Association's Great Decisions program present options ranging from Europe's filing the gaps resulting from reduced U.S. support, to conceding a Russian sphere of influence outside Russia's territorial boundaries.

Here is the schedule for the remaining Great Decisions sessions:

5/21    AI and American National Security

6/4     American Policy in the Middle East

Great Decisions booklets with essays by experts on each topic are available from the Foreign Policy Association at this FPA link.

All are welcome to join the Wednesday Forum, which meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. in the Knatvold room. If you are not already on the Forum list and would like to be, to receive the Zoom link and regular notices, please contact the church office at office@uuchurch.org or (206) 525-8400.
