Help Tent City 3 Move

Saturday, July 26

Come when you can: 9:00 a.m. through early afternoon at UUC

UUC will help Tent City 3 (TC3) move from our parking lot to a new site on Saturday, July 26. They will load up pallets, tents and all the rest of the stuff as they move to a new host site. The move includes some physical labor like loading pallet boards on the truck and schlepping bags, boxes and the camp office furniture. But you can also help with light duty tasks—sweeping, helping some take down their tents or mark their personal belongings before transport, or running masking tape, markers and other limited supplies around the move site. Your help is much appreciated, from about 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Arrive anytime and stay for however much time you have available, even if only for an hour or two. You do not need to sign up in advance to assist with the move.

  • It's a good idea to bring work gloves, if you have them.
  • Bring lots of water—it could be hot!
  • Plan to park on 35th Avenue or other neighborhood streets, since trucks will be moving in and out of the UUC parking lot during the move.
  • Most work at UUC will finish up by early afternoon, as many from the TC3 community will bus over to their new home to unload personal tents and belongings.

Since TC3 has to move everything, this is not a good time to bring any donations you might have. They do appreciate donations, and an update of the most needed donations will be shared after TC3 gets settled in at their new site.

It's a long, tiring day for the TC3 community so extra hands are welcome and much appreciated. And remember, no advance sign up is needed. Stop by as you are able. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Mary Mason.

A related volunteer opportunity is to donate makings and help make sack lunches for that day.
