Family Ministry Art Exhibit and Reception

Sunday, August 3, opening and reception

An exhibit of art created by UUC’s children and youth will be on display in the Chapel beginning Sunday, August 3. All are invited to meet the young artists at a reception during Coffee and Conversation that morning after the worship service.

Much of the artist was created during two sessions of “Chalice Camp” this summer. During the first session, “We are Artists,” we used the curriculum "Drawing Differences," from EmbraceRace to explore, celebrate, and learn how to draw our similarities and differences. The campers also used art to explore questions about what is holy or important to us, how we find beauty in the everyday, and what symbols are important to us. This included everything from creating self-portraits to sculpting with baker’s clay.

During the second week of camp, children were transported to a magical land of Univelaria, where they were invited to join the Univelarian Fantastickal Forest Guild. At UUFG, children learned about the ways we rely on one another in community and practice responding to injustice. They were also invited to develop a fantastickal persona as a witch, wizard, or other magical creature. Some of their art represents these understandings and their fantastickal creatures.

The Family Ministry Art Exhibit will be on display August 3 through September 19. For more information about the exhibit, contact Aria Curtis, Director of Family Ministry.
