Sunday, September 21, 11:15 a.m. and 1–3 p.m. in the UUC chapel
All are invited to meet the Brig Studio Artists on Sunday, September 21, in the chapel, at the opening of their new exhibit entitled “Becoming.” You may meet select artists immediately after the 11:15 a.m. service, or come to the public Art Reception, from 1–3 p.m. The members of this group live very different lives. They work in different media, including oils, acrylic, mixed media, watercolor, and collage. Their styles range from realist to pure abstract. Therefore, the idea of “Becoming” is interpreted and represented in various ways. The exhibit will be on display at UUC through October 24, 2025.
The works in this exhibit honor Madeline Lovell, who was a former member of both the Brig Studio Artists group and UUC. Her green burial also served as inspiration to the artists.
The Brig Studio Artists have painted together every Friday for over 20 years. Group leader Theresa Frazer explains, “We support each other wherever we are in our artistic journeys, learning from one another and growing together as artists. As a group, with gentle critique and by sharing what we have learned outside of our studio practice, we encourage one another in our individual efforts to grow and have fun.“ The group meets in Building 406 at Magnuson Park, which is nicknamed “The Brig.” Hence the name of the group.
