Sunday Coffee Resumes

After suspending coffee hospitality on Sundays in mid-December due to the Omicron spike in coronavirus cases, we are relieved to see the recent strong downward trend in case counts locally. We are delighted to announce that “Coffee and Conversations” in Nathan Johnson Hall is returning after each Sunday morning service. Small groups meeting in the building may also include refreshments during their gatherings again.

Please note that UUC still requires facemasks at all times in the building for those age 3 and older. The quick “lift & sip” technique is the way to go in Nathan Johnson Hall and everywhere else inside at UUC. Nope, it’s not ok to cast aside the mask just because there’s a coffee cup or a cookie in the vicinity! Lift your mask momentarily, take a quick sip or bite, and replace your mask over the nose and mouth immediately.

And, while Washington State and Public Health of Seattle and King County have announced that as of March 1, restaurants and other venues are no longer required to verify fully vaccinated status of their customers, UUC will continue to require proof of vaccination for the time being. Our Greeters will continue to check vaccination cards for all who enter, except for those who have already shown proof and are in our database. Children under age 5 are exempt from this requirement, since they are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.

More good news: UUC is currently making plans towards resuming choir and congregational singing! Because this kind of vocalizing introduces increased risk of airborne contagions including coronavirus, we expect to continue requiring facemasks in the building beyond the State’s plan to ease indoor masking on March 21. We are watching this carefully and will respond to public health guidelines and the unique activities and needs of our church community.
