Striving for Equity and Opportunity in Housing in Seattle

AFRICATOWN COMMUNITY LAND TRUST with outline of Africa and the Space Needle

Our January 9 plate collection went to the Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT). There is still time to contribute to this vital organization through UUC, and we invite you to make a donation online (via UUC Connect—select “Special Plate” and note “Africatown Community Land Trust” in the memo line) or send a check to the church office.

ACLT is making great strides in addressing the effects of housing discrimination, unjust laws and gentrification in Seattle. Their website has a very good 3-minute overview video. Evidence of their progress is represented by the Liberty Bank Building at 24th and Union, which provides 115 affordable housing units and commercial space for Black entrepreneurs.

The work of Africatown Community Land Trust is aligned with our UU principles and values around justice, equity and self-determination. Please join in supporting this important endeavor to address equity in housing and entrepreneurship at a systemic level.
