Economic Justice Team Meeting

Word cloud: justice, economic, work, invest, income...

Sunday, December 18, 2:30 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

Our team will resume meeting beginning on December 18 with a discussion of Seattle Initiative #135 led by Camille Gix from Real Change.

Initiative 135 will be on the February 14 special election ballot. If it passes, the city will fund the establishment of a Seattle Social Housing Developer to build social housing for people with incomes from 0 to 120% of area median income. The city will transfer available city land to the Developer. A majority of the members on the Developer’s board will be tenants. Rents should be less than 30% of each tenant‘s monthly income. The building should meet green building standards. Social housing is new to Seattle, but has been widely successful in Germany, Montreal, London, Paris, Munich, and Vienna. For more information, see houseourneighbors.org.

Following discussion of the initiative, we will discuss our priorities for the year ahead.
