Topic: Great Decisions 2021 Chapter 3: Brexit and the European Union
With the “Brexit transition period” coming to an end this year, the United Kingdom will formally leave the European Union at the start of 2021. With negotiations between the two entities continuing to stall, what does the future of Europe and the UK look like? Will the UK survive a possible Scottish vote to leave? Who will step up and take command of Europe now that Angela Merkel is out of the spotlight?
We will watch the Great Decisions video and Professor Wall from the Jackson School will lead the discussion. Philip Wall is an Affiliate Professor at the UW Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies and a retired member of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States. At the Jackson School, Professor Wall’s teaching focuses on U.S. foreign policy and decision-making, diplomatic methods and negotiation, and, most recently, US relations with the European Union.
