Return of Coffee and Hospitality on Sunday Mornings

Part of the delight in being together on Sunday mornings at UUC has been the opportunity to visit with one another over a cup of coffee or tea and a cookie or two following Sunday services.

We’re pleased to announce the re-introduction of this popular practice in August, beginning with a limited selection as soon as this Sunday! A gradual “ramp in” for our Coffee Crew volunteers over the next few weeks means that we’ll be ready to roll by Homecoming Sunday, September 12. (We had hoped to offer this on August 1, but unanticipated staffing issues made it not possible at the last minute.)

Coffee service will be available in Nathan Johnson Hall as usual on Sundays when all attending are verified to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You are welcome to sit with friends for a while, or take your refreshments to meetings elsewhere in the building.

However, given increasing public health concerns around the Delta variant, UUC will move our coffee & cookies outside the building on “Full Community” Sundays for the time being. On August 15, our next Full Community Sunday, we will encourage you to exit the chapel and head out the doors without lingering inside. You’ll be able to pick up a cup of coffee, tea or ice water, and a small treat to enjoy with friends on the Lower Plaza or in the Memorial Garden or take with you as you continue on your day. We’ll have juice boxes for the kids, too.

Outside hospitality will be offered with compostable cups and napkins. Empty juice boxes are recyclable, so we’ll provide appropriate containers to dispose of these items when you’re done, too. (Or bring your own reusable!)

Please remember that UUC requires facemasks indoors for everyone on Full Community Sundays. Since we are not checking vaccination status on these Sundays, UUC should be considered a “public setting” where masking indoors is highly recommended for all. Thanks for your cooperation.

On August 8, 22 and 29, UUC will limit attendance to those who are fully vaccinated. All attendees on these mornings must present proof of final vaccination received at least 2 weeks prior to attendance. (If you have shown proof of vaccination at a previous visit to UUC, you are already in our “fully vaccinated” database and do not need to present proof of vaccination again.) Masks remain optional on these Sundays, since our regulation of attendance does not constitute a “public setting.” We ask that ALL ATTENDEES check-in at the kiosks upon entering the building. This creates a reliable record for contact tracing, should that be necessary, as requested by Public Health Seattle & King County. It’s also helpful to UUC’s planning through this recovery time, to better understand who is attending on Sundays.
