Plate Collection to Green Buildings Now
Sunday, May 9, 9:30 a.m. worship service
The Second Sunday Dedicated Plate for May will support Green Buildings Now, an interfaith group working for a just transition to a fossil-fuel-free Seattle, beginning with marginalized communities. Spearheaded by a number of climate action and social justice groups, Green Buildings Now is raising funds to weatherize and replace fossil-fuel energy systems at the South Beacon Hill Resilience Hub, on the campus of Bethany United Church of Christ.
This will bring reduced utility bills to Resilience Hub partners which include Got Green an environmental justice group, the Rainier Valley Food Bank, the Nurturing Roots community farm, the REWA Head Start School, and Youth Undoing Institutional Racism. Other goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, educating residents about the need for building electrification, and building support for a more vigorous government action on climate change.
The UUC Climate Action Team hopes that you will join us in supporting this exciting project. (Pending completion of the Green Buildings Now website, more information can be found at www.seattlefirstbaptist.org/climate-action.) Questions? Team members will be available during the virtual coffee hour after the worship service on Sunday, May 9.
