Cooks! Painters! Gardeners! Volunteers Needed for New Homeless Shelter

cookpot, paint brush, garden tools

As we’ve reported previously, the new enhanced homeless shelter in Shoreline (16357 Aurora Avenue N. Shoreline), is now open, with 26 residents so far (with space for up to 60 eventually). They have a big need for volunteers for the following tasks.

Meals: UUC will continue to provide breakfast and dinner on the second Sunday of each month for up to 60 folks (currently only 30). We still have openings for the dinner on Wednesday, June 16, while the Hunger Intervention Program takes a short vacation from providing weekday meals. Please email Sallie Dacey at dacey.sallie@gmail.com for further information and to sign up.

Volunteer Painters can help prepare more rooms for new residents. (Some UUC members have already worked on this! Thank you!) Volunteers with some prior experience painting may sign up for a 3-hour shift Tuesday–Saturday from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. now through June 1. Social distancing precautions are in place. All supplies and materials provided. This is a great activity for families with teens, adults, couples, or small groups of friends. Volunteer Gardeners can help establish a garden plot on the property. Others may work with guests on an ongoing basis to plant and care for the new plants. Outdoor activity with social distancing. Shifts are available Monday–Wednesday 10 a.m.–3 p.m. For more info contact Gardening Volunteer Coordinator Jessi at jessi@lakecitypartners.com. Thanks for your continued support for people experiencing homelessness in our community. Questions? Email Sallie.
