paint brush, garden tools, cookpot

As we’ve reported previously, the new enhanced homeless shelter in Shoreline (16357 Aurora Avenue N. Shoreline), is now open, with 26 residents so far (with space for up to 60 eventually). They have a big need for volunteers for the following tasks.

Volunteer Gardeners can help establish a garden plot on the property. Others may work with guests on an ongoing basis to plant and care for the new plants. Outdoor activity with social distancing. Join Judy on Monday, May 10 at 10 a.m., or take another shift available Monday–Wednesday 10 a.m.–3 p.m. For more info contact Volunteer Coordinator Meredith at volunteer@lakecity Sign up here:

Volunteer Painters can help prepare more rooms for new residents. (Some UUC members have already done this! Thank you!) Volunteers with some prior experience painting may sign up for a 3 hour shift Tuesday–Saturday from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. Social distancing precautions are in place. All supplies and materials provided. This is a great activity for families with teens, adults, couples, or small groups of friends. Sign up for a shift here:

Meals: UUC will continue to provide breakfast and dinner on the second Sunday of each month for up to 60 folks (currently only 30). There is also need for snacks. Please email Sallie Dacey at for further information and sign up!

Thanks for your continued support for people experiencing homelessness in our community. Questions? Email Sallie.
