Ordination of Justin Almeida

Dear Members and Friends:

The right to ordain, or appoint ministerial responsibilities to, a person in our religious community belongs to the local congregation. This right is central in our democratic religious heritage. For ecclesiastical purposes, we recognize no higher authority than the congregation.

It is a very special honor, therefore, when a congregation chooses to ordain one of its members to professional ministry. We did so last January when we affirmed Justin Almeida’s request for ordination. The special Service of Ordination will take place during our 9:30 a.m. morning worship service on April 25, 2021. We cordially invite you to join us for this service, and for the special Zoom fellowship time that follows the service when you may personally congratulate Justin.

Justin and his wife, Heather, and their son, Toby, have been active members of UUC for several years. During this time Justin completed his work for the Masters of Divinity degree at Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry while working on staff in our children’s and youth programs. He has led worship and preached at UUC several times over the years. He received the unanimous approval of the Ministerial Fellowship Committee of the UUA last fall. His plan is to continue working as a chaplain at the VA Hospital here in Seattle, and to become one of our Affiliated Ministers (a minister working in a non-church community setting).

It is a matter of communal pride that we celebrate Justin’s entry into full-time professional ministry. What better ambassador could there be for our liberal religious values in the community than Justin? Please join him, Heather, Toby, and Justin’s mother and sister, on April 25 for this happy occasion.

Warmly,
