Invitation to Listening Circles on the Proposed 8th UU Principle

Sunday, August 8, 10:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Knatvold and via Zoom

Join a Learning and Listening Circle on Sunday, August 8, following a sermon by Reverend Justin Almeida. Justin wonders what do our principles ask of us? To whom am I accountable in my many roles and identities? What does the 8th principle ask of me that is different from the others? He believes “our principles should hold space for comfort and confrontation, for solace and passion . . .  And when we fail, we remember our covenant is not about perfecting; it is about becoming.”

The proposed 8th Principle covenants to promote and affirm:

“Journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

Afterwards there will be both in-person (in the Knatvold room) and virtual (via Zoom) Listening Circles facilitated by members of the 8th Principle Process Team. Over 85 congregants have joined the conversation so far. We want to widen the circle, and hope you’ll join, if you haven’t already done so.

Sunday, August 8, 10:40 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. – Proposed 8th Principle Learning and Listening Circles:

  • On-site, facilitated by Scott Maxon in Knatvold
  • Via Zoom, facilitated by Debbie Maranville – find the Zoom link in UUC Connect

Please arrive by 10:40 a.m., whether online or on-site. We will begin promptly at 10:45 and will close to new attendees after that, so that everyone has a shared background on the process. To attend in-person, you must be fully vaccinated; bring your vaccination card if you haven’t yet had it checked.

If you have questions regarding Zoom, please contact Jessica Monahan at the church office (206) 454-7710.
