In connection with UUC’s desire to learn, support and be in relationship with the Duwamish tribe, the original people on the land we now occupy, UUC’s Social Justice Steering Committee is planning a visit and ecotour at the Duwamish Longhouse and Museum on Saturday, December 11 from 11:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (including travel time from UUC).

Our plan is to depart UUC by carpool (for those choosing to do so) at 11:30 a.m. Arriving at the Longhouse around 12:30 p.m., we’ll embark on our 90-minute ecotour (duwamishtribe.org/ecotours), which will explore the history and cultural significance of the land and water to the Duwamish. At 2:00 p.m. we’ll tour the Longhouse and Log Cabin Museum, including the new exhibit, Spirit Returns 2.0. Departing around 3:30 p.m., we should arrive back at UUC at around 4:30 p.m.

We welcome members and friends of all ages to join this special event, although attendees must be vaccinated and wear a mask. Among our learnings, this experience should deepen our understanding of the historical and current experience of the Duwamish, and how we can best co-exist with the Duwamish on their ancestral lands.

Please register for this event through UUC Connect. Be sure to note if you would like to carpool and if you’re willing to drive. If you live south of the church and would prefer to carpool from a location closer to home, please indicate this, too.  Lastly, remember to work your way through the screens and click “register” to ensure you’ve completed the process.
