Black Lives Matter Vigil: Say Their Names
Sunday, May 2, 2 p.m. at UUC (outside)
The conviction of Derek Chauvin has concluded one of last year’s painful episodes in the long chronicle of systemic violence against Black lives. But we all know that ongoing witness is still required as every day, it seems, we learn of other incidents demanding attention and resolution.
Please join the Racial Justice Team, physically or in spirit, for our second Black Lives Matter Vigil of 2021. We will take extra care to stay physically distanced during the vigil. Please wear a mask, bring your BLM signs if you have them (we will also have some available), and use the bathroom before you arrive. All ages are invited.
We will start the vigil in the UUC east patio at 2 p.m. (Please enter at the lower entrance on the street (west) side, same level as the parking lot.) We will gather there to reflect, renew our commitment and Say Their Names to remember Black, Indigenous and other People of Color who have been killed by police. Then we will move up to the street with our signs and, depending on the weather, we may then proceed up 35th Ave NE to NE 75th Street to bring our act of witness further into the community. If you have questions, please contact Jewels Mellen.
