Online program begins September 21

Beloved Conversations is a program for Unitarian Universalists seeking to embody racial justice as a spiritual practice. In Beloved Conversations, we are here to heal the impact of racism on our lives, in order to get free together. There are three phases of Beloved Conversations, Within, Among and Beyond. The “Within” phase focuses on the internal work that each of us needs to do as we engage in deeper personal understanding and explorations of race and racism. This work is different for white folks and for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC+) and will be done entirely in race-based caucuses. The program will begin on September 21. The registration deadline is August 31.

Members of UUC share about their experiences in Beloved Conversations Virtual in the Within program:

I attended Beloved Conversations Virtual this fall with 3 other UUC members as a part of our “learning pod.” This has been a great opportunity for me to further engage in understanding my role in white supremacy culture and how I can work to dismantle it. It has been challenging, humbling, and full of love and life. I now have allies in the congregation to help me step up and challenge racism and white supremacy culture in our congregation and beyond.

I could say so many positive things about this challenging and rewarding program, Beloved Conversations Virtual. I found the learning pod meetings and meaning making sessions especially helpful. In our last pod meeting our small group decided to stay in contact, meeting occasionally online to share our continuing concerns and efforts. Yet, for me, the ultimate takeaway is the renewed hope for antiracism in my life and heart, a hope that extends to our congregation and communities.

At UUC, close to 80 people have participated in Beloved Conversations in three different cohorts. Within the challenges of the pandemic, the Fahs Collaborative have reimagined the Beloved Conversations program to be offered virtually. This made it possible to connect UUs all across the Association in small online groups as well as having cohorts in congregations. The first session of this online program was last fall (20 UUC members participated online, joining over 1,000 UUs from across the country!) Registration is now open for the Fall session of “Within.” Please do consider being part of this transformative program
