Solidarity with Muslim Communities Team
Tuesday, December 22, 2:00-3:30 p.m. via Zoom
After a period of discernment, the team has decided to expand our scope to Interfaith Justice, effective January 1, 2021. The new scope is described as:
“The UUC Interfaith Justice Team partners with nearby faith communities to oppose anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and other forms of religious intolerance through constructive collaboration and effective modes of ally-ship.”
The group has begun reaching out to other faith groups. We met recently with members of Temple Beth Am, a nearby Jewish community with which UUC has a longstanding connection. Members of the team recently participated in an online event “Walking Together Giving Thanks Through Music” which included music and dance performances from several faiths including: Buddhist, Christian, First Peoples, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and Sufi.
Our reflection at this month’s meeting will be on Chapter 2 of the book Memories of Mohammed by Omid Safi and will be presented by Nancy Maranville. All are welcome to attend, and you do not need to have read the chapter or any of the book.
As we enter into this new and expanded scope we hope to grow the team within UUC. If you are interested, come check out our monthly meetings. If you want more information or have questions, email Nancy Maranville.
