September’s Social Justice Plate Collection

September’s Social Justice Plate Collection benefited UUC’s work with Teen Feed. Your generosity funds UUC’s Meal Team and its 16-year partnership with Teen Feed. In particular, these funds cover expenses for groceries and supplies for UUC’s crew to prepare and serve 18 meals each year. With about 1,000 homeless teens in King County, the need, unfortunately, is great. Congregants donated $5,000!

Teen Feed is a critical safety net for homeless teens in our community; it provides homeless teens with advocacy, meals and case management. These supports are essential to the teens living on the streets, in shelters or couch surfing.

UUC’s Meal Team prepares and serves 1-2 meals every month — nearly 1,500 meals each year — with an intergenerational team of congregants ranging in age from 14 to almost 70. These meals allow Teen Feed staff to foster trust and build relationships, allowing teens an opportunity to then set short-term goals like earning a GED, enrolling in classes at the local community college, and applying for a job.

Your contributions to UUC’s work is central to the teens re-establishing trust with adults, and then envisioning a life beyond homelessness. Thank you to all who contributed!
