Partnering with Habitat for Humanity, UUC Renews its Commitment to Housing
Sunday, March 8, Social Justice Plate Collection
Through both partnerships with other organizations and by directly providing housing, UUC has generously supported housing for low-income people for decades. This long commitment has included the co-sponsoring of three Habitat for Humanity interfaith builds.
By supporting a new Habitat for Humanity build just north on 35th Ave NE in Lake City, UUC will renew its commitment to the cause of housing.
Habitat is building 16 townhouses on land donated by the City of Seattle. Together, low-income families and volunteers will build the houses over the next two years. This is the “sweat equity” model of homeownership.
The first step is to make a significant donation as a congregation through our Second Sunday Plate Collection on March 8. Please bring your checkbook! You can also give online; select “Special Plate Collection” from the drop down menu.
The next step will be to schedule a summer Saturday when we can volunteer as a team of up to 20. Individual volunteers 16 and over are welcome on weekdays. No special skills are required.
