Message from Jon – April 2020
Dear Members and Friends:
The pandemic has affected all of us in some way. Keeping safe and sane is a real challenge these days. But for some of us these challenges may be exacerbated by loss of employment.
Our church may be able to help you if you find yourself in such a situation.
We have a special resource called the Sharing Fund. The fund is supported by the plate collections we receive at our Christmas Eve services and by occasional gifts from members throughout the year. The Rev. Beth and I administer this fund. All requests for assistance are handled confidentially. In the past we have been able to aid with rent, medical or utility bills, food, and transportation, for example. If you are a member of UUC and need help, please be in touch with me or Beth.
If you find yourself in a position to help provide relief for others and would like to contribute to this fund, you may send your contribution to the church, payable to UUC, and clearly designated for the Sharing Fund, or make a gift online. In the last economic downturn of 2008/9, I remember some members were able to share their ‘stimulus’ relief with this fund. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and caring.
I have also been asked about the employment of our own staff during this time. Our commitment is to retain all church staff in their current positions for their foreseeable future. Even though the building is closed, and our programming has changed its format, we want to hold onto all our fine staff if we possibly can. And if we need to make difficult decisions regarding staff, we will be in touch with you.
We live in tough times. But being a member of a caring community has never been more important. I am as grateful to be among you as I am to be here for you.
Rev. Jon M. Luopa
