Economic Justice Team: Take Action!
At our recent meeting, UUC’s Economic Justice Team discussed the efforts being taken at both city and state levels to revise budgets in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. We encourage you to contact your elected officials in support of progressive revenue increases, such as a capital gains tax. Ask them to minimize cuts to existing programs and personnel and revise budgets to support vulnerable individuals including immigrants and refugees, housing, and small businesses in the wake of the pandemic.
The Economic Justice Team encourages members and friends of UUC to take the following actions soon:
- Contact city council members and the mayor. Find and contact your city council member at https://www.seattle.gov/cityclerk/agendas-and-legislative-resources/find-your-council-district. Contact the mayor at jenny.durkan@seattle.gov.
- Contact state legislators and the governor. Find and contact your state legislator at https://app.leg.wa.gov/districtfinder/. Contact Governor Inslee via his website at www.governor.wa.gov.
I recommend reducing the police budget and using the savings to support efforts to increase human rights such as ending homelessness, increased funding for healthcare, ending poverty, etc.
I plan to contact the appropriate officials but would like a bit more detailed information about what to ask them for, are there websites to link to or some more detailed language I can build on?
