Minister’s Message from Jon
Dear Members and Friends:
Did Santa come early this year or was he late? After nearly seventeen months of temporary accommodation at the Meadowbrook Community Center we moved back into our newly renovated and expanded building last month. Several days of frenzied activity got us ready for our first Sunday services in the new building on November 23. And the response was a grand affirmation!
We have elicited feedback about our new space by way of constructive comments and compliments. We actually have two books available each Sunday on the west wall credenza in Nathan Johnson Hall for this purpose. The constructive feedback has consisted of helpful corrections we are in the process of implementing (like lighting, signs, safety issues and furniture location) as well as some items that are more wistful (like “I wish we had/hadn’t….”).
Compliments have included thanking the many members and leaders who have carried much responsibility for the completion of the project. Folks love the abundance of natural light, the connectedness between the worship space and classes for the youngest children, and the overall spiffiness of the place. Keep those compliments coming, thanks!
We are not yet done, though. That is why we set the formal dedication of the building for the weekend of March 22, 2020. We need to get the elevator inspected and functioning. We need to work on the sanctuary lighting. A few of the classrooms are a little cooler than other rooms. And so on! But the overall result is still stunning.
This year we get to celebrate our special holiday services in our new building. We have come home. It feels so good. And I feel blessed to be part of this uniquely special community.
With warmest good wishes to you and your families,
Rev. Jon M. Luopa
