Life Vows ritual & meditation, January 3
On Friday, January 3, UUC’s Zen meditation and study group will engage a “Life Vows” ritual rather than its usual sitting and book study time from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. All are invited. Janine Larsen, UUC’s Director of Ministries, facilitates the group and will lead the ritual. She says,
The Life Vows ritual offers an opportunity to reflect not on what the New Year invites us to do (e.g. New Year’s resolutions), but to consider what this moment is calling for us to be and become. What is it we wish to consider as personal vows for this year, this life of meaning and possibility?
Life Vows encourage us to set our intention for the time being, including the intention to return to that which is most true and alive for us each moment, even when we notice that we have slipped into bumbling along mindlessly. Rather than focus on a failure to heed our best intentions, we can simply renew our intention and honor ourselves for making the decision and taking the action to do so at this time (and this time, and this time). No need to fall into an endless cycle of shame and blame.Janine Larsen
Bring yourselves and your interest in committing to your path as you discover it during the unfolding of the New Year. You are also welcome to bring baked goods, fruit, snacks or chocolate to share. All else will be provided.
If you are unable to join the group on January 3 and would like to experience the ritual, you are welcome to attend next Tuesday, January 7, at the Woodinville UU Church. Janine will lead the same ritual for this sitting group, which meets each Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon.
