Immigration Clinic: Volunteer with UUC Crew
Saturday, June 15, 2-hr shift between 9 a.m.-3 p.m., WEA Office in Federal Way
Sound Alliance and Colectiva Legal del Pueblo are hosting a free Immigration Legal Clinic in Federal Way. UUC has been a long-standing member of the Sound Alliance, and UUC’s Roberta Ray is co-chairing the Sound Alliance Immigrant Rights Action Team. UUC’s Immigrant Justice Team hopes many from UUC will join the volunteer crew on June 15th. We are looking for people who can help in a variety of roles. This clinic is critical for immigrant families — to learn about their legal rights, have a brief consult with an immigration attorney, develop a safety preparedness plan in case they are detained by ICE, or complete the DACA renewal application. As such, volunteering on June 15th affords an opportunity to live into your UU values, do that in community with others from UUC, and make a huge difference to the 50-plus families expected to attend. Many roles don’t require any special knowledge or skills.
- Greeters, ushers and escorts
- Helping clients fill in forms
- Helping make family preparedness plans
- Organizing activities with children
- Serving snacks
- Set-up or clean up on the day of the event
Volunteers with the following skills and background are also needed – bilingual Spanish-English speakers; attorneys; paralegals; and mental health professionals. With any of the volunteer roles, it’s important to bring a sense of cultural humility and be willing to help where most needed.
Volunteers are needed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sign-up to volunteer for a 2-hour shift (or longer if you can). UUC volunteers can potentially be matched to carpool. Training is also provided on Tuesday, June 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Washington Education Assocation Office in Federal Way. To sign up, please fill out this form.
